From a Woman Who Enjoys Pasta as Much as I Do

"Getting ahead in a difficult profession requires avid faith in yourself. That is why some people with mediocre talent, but with great inner drive, go much further than people with vastly superior talent." ~ Sophia Loren

C-O-O-L R-I-D-E-R

Has anybody else out there heard of that gem of a movie known as Grease 2? Seriously, this movie is so fantastic (obvi in a more ironic way than its predecessor). You have Michelle Pfeiffer singing on top of ladders about wanting a "...Coo-ooo-ooo-oool Rider", an awesome bowling sequence, a pre-Sexy Rexy (Empire Records fans, you know what I'm talking about), and a biology class singing about reproduction. You mean you didn't do that in your biology class? If the answer is no, then here's what you misssed:

How could you not love this movie? I put it in the same almost-equally-as-fabulous as Teen Witch. Trust, there will eventually be a post about topping that.

Where does the pollen go?

The Doctor is In...

Saw this iPhone case and thought of several Couch members. I knew once you'd been made aware, you'd be placing your orders. I love that being a geek is now supremely fashionable. I didn't search, but perhaps they have a Battlestar Galactica case?

This website has fabulous iPhone cases, so place your orders now at Society6. http://society6.com/cases

Skin Care Success!

After much ado, I found a skin care line that is proving to be quite wonderful. The Ultra Facial Collection by Kiehls is fantastic and has solved all of my skin care woes. These are awesome products, moisturizing without any hint of smelliness and leave my skin feeling super soft. The cleanser isn't drying, the toner really gets any leftover makeup off my skin without a hint of stinging or redness, and I love the cream.

Because I'm staring down the barrel of my mid-thirties I also purchased the Abyssine Eye Cream for day and night use. This eye cream is also awesome, I'd recommend it because it really helps my concealer go on smoothly in the AM. I also purchased the Abyssine serum which they have sadly discontinued. However, Kiehls has several other reasonably priced serums that I will switch to when I run out of what I currently am using.

So three cheers to Kiehls this great three piece set!

Here Comes the Sun

I am so ready for warm, spring weather and sunny days. I'm even more ready for summer vacations at the beach. It's not even like it's that cold here in Tennessee. The lowest it ever really gets is in the 30s, and that's mainly at night. The next few days have highs in the 50s. But I am over winter clothes. And tights. And heavy scarves. I even wore a (short) dress out in public today with a denim jacket. So take that, cold weather! Here are some pictures that I picked up off of Pinterest (which isn't helping AT ALL with my spring fever). How did I actually survive last year's strong winter in Vermont?

I can't wait to try some of these. And by some I really mean just the white dress with the pink blazer seeing as how some of these clothes are a bit out of my current price range. I at least already have the white dress. Now off to find a pink blazer.

Doctor Who's 500 Miles

I'm pretty much obsessed with this. The Doctor, his companions, cast members and crew, and an awesome song.

How can anybody object?!? On another note, there is currently a tornado watch (as per usual this time of year) so obvi I am distracting myself with Doctor Who vids.

I feel like putting on a floaty dress and buying all of these shoes.  When is summer?!

Sad Realization

Ah friends...yesterday I realized that high heels and San Francisco just do not mix.  However,  I am stubborn and I insisted on not switching out shoes until I finally succumbed and had to switch in an Asian grocery store, holding on to the fridge where the chicken is stored.  I am sad to say I'll have to stick with flats and comfortable wedges from now on.  So let's look at some cute flats...and think about upcoming fun occasions that my heels can be worn at!

Spotted: Jason Wu for Target

I've been making a mental list of what I want from the Jason Wu for Target collection since I saw the lookbook this morning. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll let the images do the talking for me.

My January 2012 To Do List (And Goals Update)

If you couldn't tell by past posts I happen to be a huge fan of making lists. Seriously, I could make lists all freaking day long. I previously posted my 7 1/2 Goals in the hopes of accomplishing every single one of these items by the year's end. Did I cross off everything on that list? Unfortunately, no. I did floss my teeth every night, of which I am extremely proud. *cue bow* I also mailed out baked goods and postcards to Couch. I didn't finish An Omnivore's Dilemma but I did start and finish The Hunger Games (in January but I digress). Everything else, well, eh.

But it's a new year, new list. Instead of doing resolutions for a whole year I'm going to break it down by month. Enjoy!

January To Do List
  • Continue sending out those resumes
  • Work out 4-5 times each week
  • Make one sweet recipe and one savory recipe from my Pinterest board
  • Put together my old roommate's culmination of past Christmas and birthday gifts
  • Sell old clothes on eBay
  • Drop off other old clothes at Goodwill
  • Read a new book
  • Clean and organize bedroom
  • Make one craft from Pinterest board
  • Get through 5 movies that have been hanging out on my Netflix Instant Queue for the past 2 years
There. I think that should do for now. Since my birthday happens to be in a month I plan on rewarding myself come February 4. Coincidentally, my birthday happens to be the day before Jason Wu's Target collection debuts. Get excited!

Stop the Press

Over Christmas I watched the Glee Concert Tour and was immediately enthralled with this pink vest worn by Naya Rivera. If anybody could i.d. this for me, that would be amazeballs. Seriously, I'm in love with this and desperately feel the need to own this. In other pink news, I got this baby as an early birthday present from the boyfriend!

I refuse to admit that I have a pink problem.

Already Playing Catch Up

Geez louise, it's not even the first week of 2012 and I'm already behind on loads of items on my to-do list. I've spent the past 3 weeks out of town, celebrating the holidays and spending time with my boyfriend and his family. I'm finally back home and so looking forward to getting back into my routine. I figured I'd use this time to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by writing down my to-do list and turning it into a blog post for you. Let me know if you have any tips on getting things done more effectively.
  • Blog post update on my 7 1/2 things in 7 1/2 weeks
  • Finish 30 Rock before season premiere
  • Send out more resumes/applications
  • Sell loads of crap on eBay
  • Finish the Hunger Games
  • Watch the BBC Sherlock Holmes
  • Unpack everything
  • Do laundry
  • Set up weekly gym schedule
  • Finish reading Omnivore's Dilemma (clearly I did not accomplish that on my 7 1/2 things to do)
  • Upload NYE pictures
  • Put up my 2012 calendar
  • Set up my "2012 Items to Accomplish" (I feel like if I call them resolutions it just sets me up for failure. I'm better listing them so as to check them off later.)
In other news, I finally set up my Pinterest account and am completely obsessed. Seriously. I have a problem. Maybe I should set up a Pinterest board on the things I wish to accomplish. Or maybe not.

Buckingham Palace and no pants? My, my Mr. Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes has been experiencing quite a few makeovers recently, and while I'd love to give a lot of props to the Downey-Law bromance, they barely hold a tiny flame to Sherlock. A sleek, modernized re-telling with enough allusions to the books that you don't feel as though the story has been cribbed by middle schooler (sorry Guy, your gritty, dour, steam-punky remakes leave something to be desired). The cast fits well together, and Benedict Cumberbatch delivers Homles' rapier wit with ease. Again, I always end up fancying Holmesesque men, god knows what that says about me.
Series 2 has just premiered, and boy did it. I won't spoil anything, but the first series is three, ninety-minute episodes. They are currently on Netflix. You have your homework. Oh, and here's a sampler for series one.

The Hunger Games

Last night, while most people were partying after their midnight kisses and champagne, I was curled in my bed feverishly reading the Hunger Games. Someone had initially described it in the style of Stephanie Meyer (who despite her success, needs to understand no one says 'Jazzed' for anything), which was a turn off. It wasn't until one of my clever teacher friends, who I've known for ages, started talking about it, and she convinced me to give it a go.
I was in no way deterred by the fact they were in the Young Adult section at my favorite book store, if anything I have a very soft spot for children's authors. For my 18th birthday, my then-boyfriend bought me the entire (I think there were 10 at the time) Series of Unfortunate Events books. They are brilliant.
Science fiction has a love-hate relationship with the mainstream, but this book is making it available to a younger generation. Maybe it will encourage them to read books such as Lord of the Flies or 1984. I am pretty excited for the second book, hopefully I'll get it soon. It's an easy read, well paced, with an engaging story and characters. What's not to love?
